Carrie Rodriguez

Part of working in radio requires almost everyone to help out on promotions. I snapped a few pics on Valentines evening, February 14, 2013 when singer/songwriter Carrie Rodriguez performed live at Knuckleheads in KCMO. Carrie is well known on the Austin, Texas music circuit and has performed all over the nation. One of the perks of working in the radio industry is the opportunity to attend a variety of free (he he) concerts and meet a lot of wonderful people and performers. Carrie has such a sweet and humorous spirit and plays a really mean fiddle! She also has an amazing voice!

Her latest release is called “Give Me All You Got.”  The song “I Cry For Love” is an excellent example of her innate talent.DSC_0183

Sun Studio

This is the famous Sun Studio in Memphis, Tenn. Many great names in country, blues, R & B, rockabilly, and rock & roll have beginnings here. BB King, Johnny Cash, Elvis Presley, Roy Orbison, Jerry Lee Lewis, and Charlie Rich just to name a few. Sam Phillips was a rock pioneer who always dreamed of owning his own recording studio. Later Sam started his own record label in the 50’s, calling in Sun Records. Sam Phillips is reported to have commented, “‘If I could find a white man who had the Negro sound and the Negro feel, I could make a billion dollars.'” He did. Around 1950 a young man came in to record an acetate disc. His name was Elvis Presley. The rest as they say is history.
